Simply place the shot in the recess and close the clamp. The triangular wedge jaw will open the shot in one smooth motion. Great product! Stands up sturdy on my high-pile carpet. Not too heavy, not too light. It comes pre-assembled in a MASSIVE box, so just be aware. The condition was great, minus one spot that looks like the fabric weave was stained. Not noticeable. Kindof a pain to adjust, but that's not necessarily the fault of the product. Just a finnicky thing to get "just right."
