It is a nice wooden frame with an aluminum plate and a sheet of clear plastic to allow you to put in a map and use a grease pencil to your hearts content. This one has a leather loop for a writing implement and 2 eyelets for a leather carrying strap. This one also has a sheet of paper for "winkelmessung" which appears to be more modern.
